Privacy Policy

ShoeboxTax ("the app") is published by Shannon's Online Bookkeeping ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app handles and how. The short version: your records stay on your device and in your own private iCloud. We never receive them, and we don't sell, share or track anything.

Information stored on your device

Receipt photos, merchants, amounts, dates, categories, notes, questions for your tax pro, tax documents (such as W-2s, 1099s and 1098s, including any personal details printed on them), your name and email (if you enter them) and your tax pro's name and email are stored on your device, protected by iOS data protection. We can't see this information.

Receipt and document reading

When you snap a receipt or tax form, the app reads it entirely on your device using Apple's built-in text recognition. Images and recognized text are not uploaded to us or to any third party.

iCloud backup (ShoeboxTax Pro)

If you have Pro, your records and photos are backed up to your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit, so they stay in sync on devices signed in to your Apple Account. This data is stored by Apple under your iCloud account and Apple's Privacy Policy. We don't have access to it.

Sending your package to your tax pro

The export package is created on your device as a password-protected PDF. It is only sent when you choose to send it, through Mail or another app you pick from the share sheet, to the recipient you choose. We don't receive a copy.

Camera, photos and files

The app asks for camera access to photograph receipts and forms, and lets you choose photos or PDFs you've already saved. It only uses the images you take or select.

Purchases

Pro subscriptions are processed by Apple. The app receives confirmation of your subscription status from Apple, not your payment details.

Notifications

If you turn on receipt reminders, they're scheduled on your device. No push server is involved and no reminder content leaves your device.

What we don't do

• No bank connections and no tax filing on your behalf.
• No advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking tools.
• No servers of ours that receive your receipts or documents.
• No selling, renting or sharing of your information.

Children

The app isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Retention and deletion

Your data stays on your device and in your iCloud backup until you delete it. In the app, Settings › Delete account & all data permanently erases your records from the device and from your iCloud backup. Deleting the app removes the data on that device.

Your rights

You can access, correct, export (Settings › Your data › Export my data) or delete your information at any time in the app. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. Contact us with any questions.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and note material changes in the app.
